Discussion
The outcome of my discussion with GengoTomo: what the problems were, and what solutions I proposed.
Client Problems
Learning material scattered and unstructured
Japanese material from N5 to N1 was scattered across files and chats. Students had no clear learning path from basic to advanced level.
Learning only possible at set times and places
Without an online platform, learning depended on face-to-face schedules. Prospective students outside the city could not join at all.
No monetization path for paid classes yet
The client wanted to open paid classes but had no neat system for registration, payment, and premium material access control.
Client specifically wanted WordPress
The client team was already familiar with managing content through WordPress. A custom platform would only make it harder for them to update material themselves later.
Proposed Solutions
Structured N5 to N1 curriculum per level
Material arranged step by step from basic N5 to advanced N1. Students always know where they stand and what to learn next.
Learn from anywhere with a student dashboard
Each student gets a dashboard to continue material, take quizzes, and track progress. Learning is no longer tied to schedule and location.
Free and paid schemes in one system
Introductory material opened free as the entry point, advanced material locked for paying students. Registration and payment integrated directly on the website.
Built on WordPress as the client requested
The whole LMS runs on WordPress the client team already masters. Adding material, quiz questions, and class pricing can be done in-house without coding.

Conclusion
The GengoTomo LMS website project was completed and went live in August 2025. Learning Japanese from N5 to N1 now has an official home: students can study from anywhere, the client has a paid-class monetization path, and the team can manage everything themselves on WordPress.
The main lesson: a good learning platform bridges both sides at once, students who need flexibility and an owner who needs full control over the content.
